Arrests continued. In a trial known as Little Rivonia, more ANC members were prosecuted for their anti-apartheid activities. Much of the prosecution’s argument had to do with the close relationship between MK and the Communist Party. George Bizos and Joel Joffe led their defence. While being sentenced, Wilton Mkwayi, the new head of MK, said: "My Lord, I am a professional agitator."
All were found guilty and received various long sentences. Mkwayi received a life sentence alongside the other ANC leaders on Robben Island. It would take many years before MK was able to fully resume the fight against apartheid.
